I lost my 22 year old son to suicide on May 7, 2021. He was diagnosed throughout his life with many different mental health conditions due to the lack of proper testing in the United States. It started when he was 7 with ADHD. Then when he was 15, he was diagnosed with depression which came after his first suicide attempt.
Then at 18, he was diagnosed as bipolar. At 20 years old, after his failed attempt at college, came his second known attempt at suicide. He was diagnosed with PTSD from the childhood trauma of abuse. At this time, we found out he was using many different drugs to self medicate. After losing his uncle in 2020, there was another suicide attempt. After which, he was hospitalized for three weeks and diagnosed with drug onset schizophrenia.
After that diagnosis and some new medication, he was doing okay for awhile, then he started to slip again and took off to his father’s. After one month living with him, I got a visit to my door on May 7th to tell me that my son had hung himself overnight. My world was completely destroyed. I am Eric’s mom, Forever 22 💚💜
