Leanna’s Story (Thyroid Cancer)

Leanna's Story (Thyroid Cancer) This story is about my mom. In June, four months after she lost her dad to cancer in 2010, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I never thought I would have to say my Mom is a cancer survivor. That July, five months to the day after Pap died, my Mom had her surgery to remove her thyroid. Dad called me throughout the day to give me updates. She pulled through surgery.

In September or October, my Dad had to take her back down to the hospital for full body scans. She went down three consecutive days. The second day she went down, they said everything looked fine that they were going to give her the radiation pill that day. Dad or I couldn’t be around her for ten days. She lived with my grandma while that processed.

To this day, three years later, I am now a proud daughter of a cancer survivor. I am so thankful my Mom is here to be with me and watch me get married in March.

The lady in the yellow shirt is my Mom. She is pictured with her brother & sister.
