“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” — Bob Marley
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard warriors say that they didn’t have a choice but to be strong and fight. While I understand the thought process behind such a statement, I think it’s important to note that true strength isn’t just about choosing to be strong in certain moments.
It’s about finding the resilience and perseverance within ourselves during life’s toughest challenges and that includes when we don’t have a choice.
You didn’t ask for your diagnosis, battle, or any adversary you have faced. You may not have felt like there were any other options but to gear up and fight.
However, the act of preparing to put up a fight for our health takes an enormous amount of strength and these moments allow us to see what our strength is really capable of.
Please let this sink in:
Your strength is present and has always been there. Your battle just made you see your strength in a different light. It made you see the warrior within you.
For many warriors, surviving is something that we can see as a daily fight in a number of ways. Whether surviving cancer, serious injury, mental health struggle, or any other life adversity, making it through each day is a win and should be celebrated as such.
Take a moment to acknowledge and honor these amazing qualities within yourself. Recognize the strength you possess, the courage you’ve shown, the bravery that has carried you through tough times, and the perseverance that keeps you going. Celebrating these aspects of yourself is not just a form of self-appreciation, but also a reminder of the powerful warrior you are.
