Rebecca’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Rebeccas Story Breast CancerIn March 2013, I lost my mom to stage 4 breast cancer. 2 months later at age 37, I was diagnosed with DCIS stage 0 in my right breast. June 30, 2013, I had a bilateral mastectomy to find out that both breasts had cancer that was just starting to grow. I know I am blessed and that my mom gave me life 2 times. Had she not passed, I would not have known for 2 more years possibly. Cancer free now, 14 months straight. I pray that we all pay attention to our family history. BRAC 1 and 2 tests declared that my parents do not carry the gene mutation. My cancer was CAUSED BY STRESS. My heart goes to all who have experienced the tragedy of cancer. Currently I am still battling depression, but I am entirely grateful for the love and support that I have been blessed with.

  1. Your a strong lady. Not sure if you knew i also had DCIS. FOUND out in May. Had lumpetomy and radiation. Ive been back to work since August 9 for 3 days a week only I also had a Huge melt down in July when all radiation was done. Now they want me to Take Arimidex. But I’m scared to death of the side affects! Take care

  2. Reading this story was watching my life. I started having mammograms at age 37 as my mother bugged my 2 sisters and i to go as she was very cysty. At 43 I was diagnosed with DCIS stage 0 had a partial mastectomy and radiation and took tamoxifin for 5 yrs. I was cancer free for 10 yrs. and have now had a mastectomy on the right last Dec. and just had the left one done a week ago. We have to listen to our family and get checked earlier the better. 50 would have been too late. I started the history and my 4 daughters will be checked on a regular basis. We are our best advocates and have to listen to our hearts.. Negative comments don’t help and I refuse to have negative people around me. Take care and stay positive!!!!
