My story continues every day. I wasn’t taking care of my health when Osteogenesis Imperfecta and complications from it (asthma, heart issues, scoliosis) got worse. In 2015, I took control of my life; I lost 50 pounds, 12 inches off my waist, and reduced my body fat by 25 percent! I still have issues, but I believe taking care of myself has given me a better quality of life.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, is a very misunderstood genetic mutation. My body creates less collagen, which is the building block of a lot of things in a human being. It doesn’t know how to process certain minerals like calcium, so I end up with stones. I need to push myself while my body is working against me with PCOS and hypothyroidism in addition to Osteogenesis Imperfecta.
