Leanne’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Leanne's Story (Breast Cancer) LRI was 33 years old and married with three kids when I was diagnosed with stage IIIc triple negative breast cancer in November 2011. My world turned upside down, and I was thrown into the cancer world, sitting in the chemotherapy suite only two weeks later.

I underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy, a radical mastectomy and auxiliary lymph node dissection, and 33 rounds of radiation. I came out cancer-free and was enjoying every second of my wonderful life, as I knew now how quickly things could take a turn. I raised over $12,000 for breast cancer research and ran my first 5 km only three months after finishing treatment.

My nine month remission came to a screeching halt in March 2013 when I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. My cancer had shown up once again, this time in my lungs and more lymph nodes. I continue to fight the fight. My time is not up yet. I will fight until the bitter end. I have so much to fight for.

I’m so grateful to have today.

Leanne, you are a very strong person. That is what it takes to keep this terrible disease from taking over.
