Karen’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Karen's Breast Cancer StoryI am living with breast cancer for the second time in three years. I discovered the first tumor myself during a self exam. After surgery and radiation I found another lump during an exam. This time I had to have a double mastectomy and am taking chemo. This isn’t really the story.

In the midst of all of this we adopted a little girl. We knew the family and she was in a very bad situation, worse than cancer can cause (at least in this mothers heart). She was 21 months old when we got her. Her adoption became final just two weeks after my second diagnosis, only a few short weeks before her sixth birthday. She is a dream come true and is my encouragement each day. We live in a very small town and have to travel two hours away for surgery and each of my treatments. We have met some remarkable doctors, friends as we call them now.

We are keeping faith that we as a family can and will be able to take an unforgettable vacation to celebrate many hurdles and the closeness it has brought us to.
