Fran’s Story (Breast Cancer)

I am so excited! I became a 5 year Triple Negative Breast Cancer Survivor on November 8th.

I was washing dishes on a Saturday morning, and my husband came up behind me to give me a hug. In doing so, he felt the lump. Everything happened so fast after that. I went for a biopsy, and that day my doctor called to tell me I had the “C” word. My husband just happened to be home that day. When I hung up, we just hugged and cried for hours. We were both in shock since breast cancer is not in my family history. My biggest worry after the call was how I was going to tell my parents. I did not want to worry anyone.

I had 8 weeks of chemo and 36 days of radiation. I lost all my hair. My husband actually shaved my head. That was a very emotional day. My husband was my rock. He kept my spirits up and was by my side EVERY step of the way.

In December 2011, after finishing my treatments and beginning to get my strength back, I found out I had thyroid cancer and had to have my thyroid removed. I got through all of this with the support of my family and friends!!  The pic I attached is my nephew visiting me and giving me some love. <3 I have not stopped Fighting Like A Girl!!!
