Julie’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Julie's Story Breast CancerI had my bilateral mastectomy on Thursday, October 29th. During my surgery, I had reconstruction, a port put in, and a lymph node biopsy, as well as all of my right arm lymph nodes removed. Everything went well during my nine hour surgery, and I went home two days later.

The following Monday, I noticed a lot of redness on my right breast and saw my surgeon . He added another antibiotic and sent me home. The next day, I noticed a lot of color change, bruising, and blisters. I was sent back to the hospital for IV antibiotics overnight and then sent back home.

The next day, I had follow ups with my oncologist and an infectious disease doctor. They were very alarmed at the infection and admitted me to the hospital again. I am now on day three of a strong IV antibiotic in the hospital. The doctors are talking possible surgery to remove an expander in the infectious area. I am scared, actually terrified of what’s going to happen! I have a ton of family and friends.
