Brenda’s Story (Colon Cancer)

brendas-story-colorectal-cancerHi, my name is Brenda, and I worked with people with disabilities for the last 8 years. In January, my husband scheduled both of us for colonoscopies. His results came back fine, but mine came back with the cancer diagnosis.

But I’m lucky!!! I did 6 weeks of chemo and radiation to shrink the tumor. I then had a colono resection surgery to remove the mass. My surgeon was able to completely remove the mass and save enough of my large intestine and rectal muscle that, once I have completed 6 month of follow-up chemo, I can have the surgery reversed and get rid of the illiostomy bag.

I have chemo every other week and have completed 2 sessions. Only 10 more to go. Because of missing so much work and now the side effects of chemo, I lost my job. However, God has blessed me in so many ways! I AM A SURVIVOR!!!
