Hi, my name is Alisha, and I am 23 years old. I was diagnosed with SMA about 4 months ago. I have had problems with my stomach for as long as I can remember. I was constantly going to the emergency room, at least once a month, throughout my teenage years, usually being pumped with fluids through an IV and being told I was dehydrated and then being sent home. Some of the time, I would have a UTI also. I also was told at a very young age that I have endometriosis.
I am trying to quit smoking for my new specialist I am seeing for my SMA. I’m hoping he will consider doing surgery or something for this very soon because I don’t know how much more I can take. The pain is increasing, and now I get flushing with the pains, and I lost my balance at work and fell over the other day. I’m worried I’m gonna collapse or not be able to take care of my three little ones or work. It helps to take away a little pain if I sit on my couch and do a knee to chest position. I really don’t know much about this disease, but I do hope to help raise awareness about it and hope to maybe start a fundraiser.
