I am a super busy mommy of three cute kids. I never thought that I would be battling cancer at the age of 33.
I just happened to be home on October 1, 2012, the first day of breast cancer awareness month. The TV was plastered with commercials; every talk show was talking directly to me, I swear! After all of that, I called the doctor, and he squeezed me in that day. It was a short but serious visit with him that ended with an appointment with a surgeon the following morning for a biopsy.
On October 4, 2012 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. The following week, I underwent a mastectomy followed by 8 rounds of chemo. During those 4 months of chemo, my kids gave me every reason to get out of bed and just keep moving when all I wanted to do was lay around. I have now completed 4 weeks of radiation and have also returned to work.
Holy cow, what a year! I have my moments, but then I look back at what I have already done and think ‘if I can make it through chemo and radiation I can do anything!’ Keep your head up fighters. Each days gets brighter and brighter!
