The Brave Souls Club by Danielle Viverito Book Review

The Brave Souls Club LRHow do you explain to a little girl fighting for her life what it all means?  What do you say when a frail 6-year-old little boy asks “Am I going to die?”

The Brave Souls Club by Danielle Viverito assists with that very daunting task in a gently written story that helps children who are battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses answer questions that most adults have a hard time answering – questions like “why me?” and “why does sickness happen?”

Battling a life-threatening illness herself, Danielle brings a level of authenticity to the story that can only come from a place of genuine empathy.  Through carefully selected words, a heartwarming storyline, and realistic characters, she takes a very difficult topic and tenderly transforms it into one of simplicity, understanding, and compassion.  Every sick child who reads this book will be left feeling like the extraordinary little person that we adults already know they are.

The Brave Souls Club should be a staple in all pediatric wards. All sick children should be given the opportunity to read this book or have it read to them. The Fight Like a Girl Club has purchased 5 books to be donated to St Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. We would like to challenge each reader of this book review to do the same. Please consider purchasing and donating – even just 1 book – to the hospital of your choice. I can’t think of any charitable deed that would provide as much of a sense of fulfillment than easing the pain of a seriously ill child.
