Stephanie’s Fight Like a Girl Story (Lupus)

Stephanie's Lupus Story I’m 36 and was diagnosed with SLE almost a year ago. I have a horrible doctor that has tried two different medications for Lupus (Plaquenil and Lyrica). The Plaquenil did not work at all. He now has me on Lyrica which has only made me gain 40 lbs. There hasn’t been any change for the better. I’m in more pain now than I was a year ago. ALL my symptoms are worse.

There are only four “rhumy’s” in my area. They are all in the same clinic and they all told me the same thing as my current doctor. My illness has also played a big part of my two year separation from my husband. I just want to sleep and eat without being nauseous and to stop hurting!! I have been on medication for ADD, anxiety, depression, and insomnia for several years now. They say it’s all related to my Lupus, however they’re all much worse now.

I have not had one day that something has not hurt for over a year now. Its mainly my left knee and/or my feet. I pray no one will ever have to experience this. I still go to work 40 hours a week but I fight like a girl to do it!!!!

Hi Stephanie-It takes most of us years before we get the right combinations of medicines that work for us – Different things work for different people – Doctors try to give a medicine a good while to start to work before trying something else – I was wondering what arthritis medicine are you given if any along with the Lyrica? – I take Nabumetone , my daughter takes naproxen. _ we also take tramadol for pain- We eat a strict diet that helps keep down our inflammation which can be found on google or youtube – Sometimes gabapentin works well with some people – Keep fighting like a girl and keep trying the meds. – It’s hard to do and accept but cutting back on work load is the biggest and hardest thing to do, but we need a lot of rest – Good luck my Lupus Sister

The only medications I’m on for the lupus is Lyrica. He feels I don’t need anything more right now,,,
I take other medications for insomnia, OCD, ADD, depression, and hormones (hysterectomy last may). None of those see to help me. The insurance finally authorized water PT/OT so help that works. Thanks again for your support !

I also have fibromylagia and SLE lupus. Cymbalta has been the most effective help with anxiety, sadness, back pains, basically all over muscle pains. I tried Lyrica and savella (which made me full of rage, weird) to no help. I cannot take NSAIDs do to recurrent stomach ulcers and severe GERD and I refuse to allow them to operate on my throat. Even though I have every symptom minus fever I run a really low body temp, and a few years ago my ANA test came back negative by 2 points so it has been a battle to get on serious lupus treatment. I finally now have a new Rheum appt but not until end of June and my body is rapidly and severely aging from the lupus including lung, heart issues and total knee replacement last year at 30 yrs old. We must stay strong and keep over gloves on. I refuse to slip my glove off and let Satan win.
