Prioritizing Your Needs Over To-Do Lists

As I am writing this, I have my to-do list for work beside me and am thinking about my to-do list for the weekend.

I came across the following quote a while back, and thought it would be a good one to share with our FLAG Sisters:

“Take a moment to consider what you might need from today – rather than just what today needs from you.” -Unknown

When I originally added this quote to my list for content, I didn’t think of what it meant to me personally. It really didn’t hit me until I started writing this.

Do you ever read an inspirational quote and immediately think to yourself that it’s easier said than done? How do you feel about the quote above?  Do you struggle with what the quote is encouraging you to do?

It’s so easy to be focused on our to-do lists and goals that we aren’t necessarily doing the things we may need or want to help our overall wellbeing. If I were to break some of it down into to lists, it would look something like this:

What Today Needs from Me:
  • Schedule content for Fight Like a Girl’s social media
  • Approve social media posts created by our team
  • Review articles for Fight Like a Girl’s website
  • Plan out next week’s tasks and goals
  • Respond to emails and follow ups
  • 1-2 loads of laundry
  • Mow the lawn
  • Dishes
What I Need from Today:
  • Nourishment
  • Rest
  • Time to decompress and feel at peace

There are always more things we can find to add to our list of things to do in any given day, but sometimes we need to really ask ourselves what we want and need from the day. There are times where the to-do list can wait or be paced out over a few days if it means we can give ourselves what we need as well.

So, what is it that you need from today? How do you plan on making that happen?
