Laura’s Fight Like A Girl Story (Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis)

Laura's Story (Fibro and RA)LRMy Name is Laura Kelly-Pifer and I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. I was diagnosed over 8 years ago and it’s been quite a journey. In the beginning, I experienced mild pain. Then over the course of the last few years, my pain increased. There were times that it would take 2 – 3 hours to get out of bed, and every time I took a step, it felt like I was walking on glass. My life was miserable.

I was tired of being put on multiple medications and feeling like a zombie. Friends began to recognize for once that I was sick. I decided to try and regain control by changing the way I did things. I had been exercising and eating fairly healthy, but it was hit or miss. I began researching specific foods to eat, modified my workouts, and began a routine that worked for me.

By December of 2011 I was completely off ALL of my medication. It was truly a miracle!! To date, I’ve only had one flare this year and it was mild. I recognized it coming on and took action by listening to my body, looking at what I was eating, etc. I am so pleased with where I am now. It’s been a LONG road but I know that I’m stronger more today than ever before. Thank you for allowing me to share my brief story.

    Hi Laura!

I applaud you for your victory over this terrible disease that is hardly recognized, but thanks to stories like yours, people are beginning to learn about Fibromyalgia. I suffer from this horrific disease as well, and was wondering would you list some of the foods, exercise, etc. that helped you?

  2. Hello Laura,
I was wondering the same as Sylvia, what eating and exercise regimen did you develop for your self? If it works for you, then it can work for others as well. Maybe even write a book. I have researched and tried certain foods and exercise, but then it seems I get to tired to follow through. Would love any info or suggestions you have.

    Thanks in advance,

  3. Ladies, thanks so much for your questions and your support! Honestly, the best thing I did was get up and get moving and tried to eat as many whole foods as possible. Most of the recipes I post on my facebook page, i eat reguarly and LOVE it! Exercise, even limited, has been good for me too.
