Helen’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Helens Story Breast CancerOfficially two years cancer free. I was diagnosed at the age of 34. I found the lump while showering and waited a few months in denial to see if it would go away. It didn’t go away. 🙂 I had a segmental mastectomy (lumpectomy) . The doctors suggested chemo and radiation, but I opted to skip the chemo and just do the radiation and tamoxifen for five years. I ended up not being able to handle the side effects of the tamoxifen and had to stop after 1 month. I’m 36 now and doing as well as can be expected. It still hurts, and I think about it every day, BUT I’M ALIVE and looking forward to year three cancer free.
