Diane’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Diane's Breast Cancer Story under Breast Cancer StoriesIn April of 2010, I was ready to meet my first grandbaby. I was happy and also worried at the same time. I had just found a pretty good size lump in my left breast. The doctor that delivered my grandbaby was nice and I asked her to feel my lump and she immediately sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound. I went for the test only to have them say we need a biopsy NOW.

Within days I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I had surgery on May 5th – had my left breast removed. A few days later they called me and told me I still had cancer.  It had spread to my lymph nodes, Stage 3a.

Well, 6 surgeries later, I am cancer-free, chemo-free, and trying to be normal. My message is: Get checked. I didn’t. I am now 46-years-old with no reconstruction due to diabetes. I just want to take back my life and share my experience of cancer.
