Debbie’s Story (Breast Cancer)

16 years ago, I was diagnosed with IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma) breast cancer. I had a bilateral mastectomy and did chemo. I had a 0.03% chance of any cancer. 6 years ago, I was diagnosed with metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer. I followed up with more chemo and genetic testing, which showed no genes for any form of cancer.

2 years ago, brain bleeds/stroke, led me to spend 6.5 months in the hospital and rehab. Now I am undergoing testing for possible side effects of chemotherapy. We already know I’m allergic to Vinca based chemo and have dental issues.

I refuse to let this disease define me and try to be positive, not just for me but others who are dealing with traumatic health issues.
