In October 2008, I found a lump. I was assured that it was probably nothing. I was young, 38, and I had no family history of breast cancer. I had a mammogram, then a ultrasound, and a biopsy.
On Friday, at 5:00 pm, on December 5, 2008 my doctor calls and says to me that, “I have bad news, you have a grade 3 tumor, and it’s cancer. I’ll call you Monday to set up an appointment to discuss your options.” This left me ALL weekend to surf the internet (not my best idea) and WORRY.
I began chemo in January, had a bilateral mastectomy in August, and 37 rounds of radiation ending in November. Through it all I had a wonderful loving husband, great supportive kids, family, and a church.
Through this, I lost a great friend diagnosed with the same cancer on Thanksgiving in 2010. Though this has happened, I am happy to say, I fought like a Girl and WON.
