I went for my annual mammogram in September, and they said they saw nothing that was suspicious. They told me they would see me in a year.
Then in January, I went for my annual gynecologist appointment. They did a breast exam and it was normal. The doctor called a week later, and said that I had an abnormal pap test. I went back for a cone biopsy and the results came back normal.
Then, on February 20th, I found a lump. After many doctors appointments and tests, it was confirmed I had two different kinds of breast cancer. It had spread to some lymph nodes. I am stage 3.
I just had my second round of chemotherapy and have 2 more rounds to go. Chemo has not been easy, but my tumor is responding. After chemo, I will have a double mastectomy with an aesthetic flat closure. After the double mastectomy, I will have 22-37 rounds of radiation. I’m scared, but have amazing friends and family. I will get through this.
