Amanda’s Story (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and Thyroid Cancer)

Amandas Story Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and Thyroid CancerWhen I was 2 years old, I was first diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. After being in and out of remission for years, I got my first joint deformity in 2006 when I was 18 years old.

I was on and off of medication like biologics, injections, infusions and steroids like Prednisone, I ended up in the hospital for a week when I was 26 years old because my my immune system was so weak. Then came the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. After I got out of the hospital, I stopped taking all of my medication, joined a gym and changed my diet and lost 100 pounds.

During quarantine, I got walking pneumonia and that triggered a full body flareup and am back on medication and back to seeing a rheumatologist. At my last rheumatologist appointment, she noticed an enlarged thyroid and after testing and a biopsy, it came back that I have the genetic marker for cancer and I will be having my thyroid removed on January 10, 2022.
