1% percent of breast cancer diagnoses are found in males. Hi from the 1%. I was lucky; most men diagnosed with breast cancer find it too late because of the lack of awareness that it is possible for men to get breast cancer. I had a chest CT and they saw a shadow. Then I had an ultrasound and mammogram, followed by a biopsy of the 2 cubic centimeter mass in my left breast.
I had a lumpectomy and a partial mastectomy. All nodes were clear and my scores indicated I wouldn’t need chemo. I had 21 doses of radiation and I was done – cancer free. Mine was a far cry from the epic battles that my friends and family members have gone through with this horrible disease. I GOT OFF EASY!
My hat is off to my fellow sisters who are fighting this and I stand firmly behind you all. I will take Tamoxifen for 5 years and I have a less than 5 percent of recurrence. Please encourage the men in your life to take an extra 2 minutes to do a self exam. Here’s to Health, Wellness and Staying in a good Mental Place. #FightLikeAGirl
