Devry’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Devry_Story_Breast_CancerLRNo lump, no pain . . . a routine mammogram detected two cancers in my left breast. Following biopsies found I’m HER2 positive. I had bilateral mastectomies in November, 2013.  Six cycles of chemo were advised.  After my first chemo I lost all my hair and became neutropenic.  I was rushed into hospital; my ambulance consultant told me I was very poorly and needed immediate treatments, he also said if I hadn’t hit to the urgent care it would have been fatal.

My second, third and fourth chemo treatments were almost as bad; it felt like it was killing me.  I was rushed into hospital seven times in 12 weeks. My oncologist decided my body had had enough. He cancelled my fifth and sixth chemo treatments. I started Herceptin;  I just had my fifth one and have eleven more to go; my last will be May, 2015.  I’ve just had scans on my brain and bones as I was symptomatic of severe headaches and sacral lumber pain. Thankfully was given the great news no cancer detected. I’ve still a long way to go, but never going to stop fighting.  I have six beautiful daughters and I want to be in their lives for as long as……
