Amanda’s Mom’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Breast Cancer Ribbon My mother, who is also by best friend, battled and won with God and our families help, stage III breast cancer, 15 years ago. She had a lumpectomy, 33 treatments of radiation, and 5 months of chemo. Life had got back to “normal”  but the thought of cancer always was in our minds lurking.

My mother is an avid self breast exam person. She did them frequently, more often than even recommended. Just a month ago she discovered a lump in the same breast. She had to go to her primary doctor first, because of course she couldn’t get into the breast center without a referral from a doctor. Immediately the doctor got her in and gave her the referral she needed.

The referral appointment was set up for the following week. At the breast center she had a mammogram, an ultrasound, and 6 biopsies. The doctor on site suggested it looked to be cancerous and suspicious looking. The results came back malignant invasive ductal carcinoma. 🙁 Now we are 5 weeks out awaiting a surgery in a week for a double mastectomy with axilla dissection on both sides. She will have to undergo the heavy chemo because the biopsies revealed an aggressive form of breast cancer. She also got test for the gene BRCA and it was negative :).

Waiting is the hardest part of this all. My mother won her first battle and is a survivor, but unfortunately she is now having to battle it again. God will see her through this all. Our family will be by her side all the way!!! My momma fights like a girl!!!!
