Mary’s Story (Breast Cancer)

Mary's Story (Breast Cancer) Well my story begins like so many others. I was in the shower and found a marble size lump in my left breast. At first I thought, “there is no way, this can’t happen to me.” I made an appointment to have a mammogram (but of course I did not tell them when I made the appointment, I thought it would just go away).

Well what a surprise! They found the breast lump. The next couple of weeks were crazy. First I had biopsy and then another biopsy of the nodes. Surgery was scheduled quickly, and a 2 cm lump was removed along with all nodes under the arm. I was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast bancer and will begin my journey in January.

I think the hardest part for me is thinking about my husband and two boys. My husband Jim is my high school sweetheart and the love of my life. My oldest son just started his first year in college and our youngest just started his first year in high school. So many thoughts go through your head. But I had to ask…is it possible to fall in love all over again. Well I am proof. My husband is the love of my life and my support system. Well the year is ending and I am ready to start my new venture and I will Fight Like a Girl!

  1. Oh my goodness Mary! We have identical stories! I found mine on Nov. 01, 2012. Surgery on Dec. 19. Stage 2b. Started chemo Jan. 26. Finished (Thank Goodness) May 11. Married to the love of my life and our kids are just a year younger than each of yours! I was 36 when all of this started. Keep on fighting Mary! Know that I am right here with you fighting the same fight! We can do this!

    • Gina – thank you for responding to my story! Yes, we can do this! I finished all of my chemo on June 7th and will beginning the next part of my journey in July. Six weeks of radiation but I know that I will get through this too. Keep fighting my new friend! Nothing is keeping us down!
