Hannah’s Story (Von Willebrand Disease)

Hi, my name is Hannah, and this is my story.

I am a hematology patient with a very severe and rare blood condition. I was diagnosed the day I was born and have been “fighting like a girl” ever since.

I have been hospitalized countless times for extended periods; this means missing school and now work quite a lot. My blood disease prevents my blood from clotting. If you can name it, I’ve bled into it, which includes: joints, muscles, mucous membranes, GI tract, and CNS. I have had several hypovolemic shock scares where my hemoglobin has dropped to two! I had a hysterectomy at the age of 18. I started my period at 12 and never stopped until the day of my hysterectomy.

Unfortunately, there is no cure; just infusions three times a week of replacement factor as well as blood transfusions when needed!

I have learned that I may be bruised, but I am not broken! FIGHT LIKE A GIRL??!

How inspiring you are Hannah! I pray that the doctors will find a cure or an easier treatment for you. Keep on fighting!
