Is it just me, or are more and more young people getting diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS?? Both have been stereotyped for so long as being illnesses that only afflict older people, but as someone who is active on twitter, I'm finding so many teens that are already diagnosed with these problems! I can relate to this a lot, as I became very sick at the age of 13. I have no idea why this illness is spreading the way it is, but we need so much more research!  If only we could manage to get out of bed long enough to spread the word!  That's why websites like this are so very important.  The Fight Like A Girl Club lets us get these thoughts out there and hopefully more people will read and learn about these illnesses and want to get involved! There is a Facebook page for young people who are suffering with these illnesses right here:  Young People with Fibromyalgia. Also, Healkick, is a new website for people under 40 with neuro-immune illnesses.  I recommend that if … [Read more...]

Chronic Pain Purple Ribbon

Hi! I am Claudia, from Romania. I’m 17, 158 cm, 55kg. I had a happy childhood with minor, but frequent, health problems. My story started 3 years ago. I was operated for appendicitis in March. In April I woke up in a morning with a pain on the left knee.  It was swollen. It hurt more when I went. I said: “Nothing wrong!”, thinking that I hit it without realizing. It was before Easter, so I continued to be normal. No doctors, no meds. During a week, the pain continued, moving to the right knee, than to the right ankle. They were swollen too. I went to the doctor and she said: “I’m sure that this is rheumatism. You’ll have tests to confirm, but anyway you have to do injections of Penicillin!”. I was shocked because I didn’t felt sick. I went there just because my mother said to and then I found that I have this. I took the treatment, but when the test came, the doctor realised that all are normal.  She said: “Oh! I think that there is a mistake from the … [Read more...]

Becca Heart Defect Story

Hi Everyone, This weekend I did what the average teenager does over the weekend. I went to a surprise 18th birthday party for a friend of mine, and then the next day I went shopping for a prom dress with my friends. While I enjoyed being able to enjoy the ”normal” teen life, there was an incident that happened that I’d like to share with you all. At the birthday party, I was sitting with a group of girls - there were 4 in all with myself included. The conversation was going well and we were all laughing about some joke someone had said when a girl in the group - we will call her “Not-So-Sensitive-Girl” A.K.A. “NSSG” - asked me a personal question. “Becca do you wear push up bras?” asked the NSSG.  I thought this question was a bit awkward to be asking period, let alone at a party, with other people listening. Blushing, I responded with “I don’t really know. . . I guess I have one or two . . . why?” NSSG nodded a bit at my response; … [Read more...]
