Is There Any Benefit To Thinking Positive Thoughts? Thinking positive thoughts can change your life – whether you believe it or not. It may take some conscious effort, but when you combine a positive thought with a positive emotion and hold that thought for a little less than thirty seconds, you can effect a change in your life. Most people don't bother listening to the endless dialogue going on inside their heads. What is unfortunate about that is this dialogue is mostly limiting in nature as it springs from the subconscious mind and subliminal programming. As soon as we are born, our brain cells begin to make important connections. As we grow older, these connections form the basis of how we think. It sounds simple, but after years of developing certain thought patterns, we are often no longer in control of our subconscious mind; many of the connections in the brain have already been established. Imagine how years of negative thought patterns can influence your behavior and therefore have a profound impact on your life. Even our parents can deeply affect the way we think and feel from an early age. Fortunately, we can change how we feel with positive thinking. You are not alone if you fear rejection or failure; most people question their worth or potential at certain times. When I was in the third or fourth grade, my elementary school music teacher Mr. Boyd taught my class a catchy little jingle* that I remember after all these years. You’ve got to accentuate the positive Eliminate the negative Latch on to the affirmative Don’t mess with Mr. In-Between! You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum Bring gloom down to the minimum Have faith or pandemonium’s Liable to walk upon the scene! It’s funny how a song I learned over twenty years ago has stuck me. A few months ago I asked one of my longtime friends if she remembered it too. Not surprisingly, she did.
