Della’s Story (Obesity)

Della's Story ObesityThis past January, I weighed 354 lbs, and my son weighed 543lbs. We were both basically home bound. Our bodies hurt all over so badly from the weight, we could hardly move or get out of the house. We could have no social life. I never went outside. Our family ran our errands.

Tests showed I possibly had lupus. We prayed about weight loss surgery so that we could live and have a life, and God provided a way. We made an appointment in March and met with our doctor for the first time. We began a high protein diet. We had to stop all sugar, carbs, and caffeine. I soon began to feel much better. I got out on the porch and rocked each day. Then one day, I decided to try to walk in the yard. I walked four minutes. I went out on the porch every day and walked a little every day for some time.

As I began to lose some weight and moving more, I began to feel better, and soon I walked 17 mins. As the months passed, and after many visits to our bariatric surgeon, we finally had our surgery scheduled. We both had the sleeve surgery on Sept 15. I have lost 67lbs, and Chris has lost 71lbs. We are beginning to feel like we are coming alive! We move around quicker, we don’t hurt anymore, and we get out to go to the store and visit relatives! We prayed to God to please show us a way out of the misery and sickness of extreme obesity, and He did. We still have a very long way to go, but with the grace of God, we will be able to live and to have a life!

    Ah Bonjour Della,
How nice you write back so quickly! You write with so much wisdom, encouragement, love!

How is Chris holding up? And you, are you still a rockin ‘ or a walkin ‘ these days! ? Haha! I thought how lovely to be that person! The positiveness you have is catchy, haha yup !! , I reread your words in your story and it is comforting, lovingly comforting! Such a nice person you seem to be, you even thought of taking your own personal time, and writing to my sister Diane on her personal journey with Lymphoma disease.

    You are selfless.

    With love and prayers,

Thank you so very much Brigitte for all your kind words! I appreciate it so much! Chris is doing awesome! He can’t get out and walk like me because he has a lot of back pain. The doctors tell him the pain will decrease as he loses weight. He is much more active now tho and runs our errands and visits some of his friends. He is very pleased with his new self. He has lost quite a bit in his face and neck as I have. I went out to a wedding last night and danced and had a blast! I wore a dress I bought but was never was able to wear but once, now it fits great! I was very exhausted but am now recovered. I will post a new photo of me and Chris soon. We have our next post-op visit next week. I will also post our new weight and losses. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day! Happy Thanksgiving in Quebec!! Della Holt
