Positive Thinking

Is There Any Benefit To Thinking Positive Thoughts? Thinking positive thoughts can change your life – whether you believe it or not. It may take some conscious effort, but when you combine a positive thought with a positive emotion and hold that thought for a little less than thirty seconds, you can effect a change in your life. Most people don't bother listening to the endless dialogue going on inside their heads. What is unfortunate about that is this dialogue is mostly limiting in nature as it springs from the subconscious mind and subliminal programming. What is usually found there are beliefs stored by a child's early caretakers. People Are Like Computers As children, people are like little computers with no operating system, no software and no peripheral hardware. By the time a child is three, he has a rudimentary operating system running. That operating system, defined by his caretakers and their beliefs often defines his experiences for life. By the time he's … [Read more...]

When you first get hit with Fibromyalgia and/or ME/CFS, it seems like your entire life is being brutally robbed.  Sometimes a vast amount of it is stolen. I mean, I've managed to lose the ability to work, the ability to smell, the ability to drive, and the ability to stay awake for more than 5 hours in a row! But for all we lose, we also gain the ability to find other reasons to enjoy existence.  I've started to enjoy fashion and interior decorating, as well as blogging and coloring.  I'd love to be able to garden, but I haven't quite figured out a body-friendly way to accomplish it. I have been aiming to live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, which gives me a sense of peace and joy, as I love the country.  I love to watch films, read or listen to books, and flip through magazines (when my hands or brain aren't giving me too much trouble!). The most important thing that I have done since becoming ill is putting my experiences on the front line for everyone to … [Read more...]

Inspirational Quotes By Barack Obama

Being a good politician relies largely on being a good communicator. We want to be inspired by our leaders. Barack Obama is such a speaker, and some of his wisest words are collected here so you can share in his vision. Use these quotes as signatures on your emails, or to support him on your personal website. Hang one on your refrigerator or keep a couple on your desk at work for daily inspiration. You can even drop them into your conversation when a friend needs guidance i.e. "As Obama said...". #1) "If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress." From a speech given at Lincoln College in 2005, these words have become one of the favorite quotes from the candidate (and no wonder). #2) "It's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential." From the convocation address delivered at the University of Chicago Pritzger School of Medicine, Obama also urged … [Read more...]

New Year's Resolutions

How many times has March rolled around and, once again, you're mad at yourself. You weigh exactly what you did on December 31st, or worse, you've GAINED weight. You are no more organized than you were the year before.  Instead of the granola bar you resolved to eat as your afternoon snack, you’re back to munching on M & M’s and Fritos. Worst of all, the goals you set for yourself as the ball dropped were the same ones you've been making for years. Why does it seem that you always fall short of your own expectations? 1. You Didn’t Really Mean It New Year’s is a jubilant time. It comes on the tail end of Christmas and Thanksgiving which emphasize gratitude, love, peace and the important things in life. By the time the party ends, people are so full of hope-or so depressed- that they make big promises about how they are going to change their lives and/or make the world a better place. Once things get back to normal, you realize that maybe this isn't the year to quit … [Read more...]

Positive Thinking

As soon as we are born, our brain cells begin to make important connections. As we grow older, these connections form the basis of how we think. It sounds simple, but after years of developing certain thought patterns, we are often no longer in control of our subconscious mind; many of the connections in the brain have already been established. Imagine how years of negative thought patterns can influence your behavior and therefore have a profound impact on your life. Even our parents can deeply affect the way we think and feel from an early age. Fortunately, we can change how we feel with positive thinking. You are not alone if you fear rejection or failure; most people question their worth or potential at certain times. But if you continue to believe you are limited, your self-esteem will remain low, and you will have a pessimistic view of the world. It is important to confront your subconscious thoughts or you will revert to your negative core beliefs time after time. Like a … [Read more...]

When I was in the third or fourth grade, my elementary school music teacher Mr. Boyd taught my class a catchy little jingle* that I remember after all these years. You’ve got to accentuate the positive Eliminate the negative Latch on to the affirmative Don’t mess with Mr. In-Between! You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum Bring gloom down to the minimum Have faith or pandemonium’s Liable to walk upon the scene! It’s funny how a song I learned over twenty years ago has stuck me. A few months ago I asked one of my longtime friends if she remembered it too. Not surprisingly, she did. Positive Outlook on Life Some people seem to have it all. A beautiful family, a successful career, good looks, a nice home—you name it, they have it. Even so, their glass remains half empty and they can always find something to complain about. Others have more than their fair share of problems—people who have been diagnosed with cancer or another … [Read more...]

Helping Hand

Modern society has created a mindset that each individual is alone in the world. Every day, you pass people on the street or in the mall, never pausing for a moment to touch, to talk, to even think about them. Practicing random acts of kindness brings back your awareness of others and allows you to touch lives. Not only is it a wonderful surprise for the recipient, but it brings an emotional lift to the giver as well. Are you at a loss for ideas of random acts of kindness to perform? Here are some things you can do. First, use your money to be kind. Leave an extra large tip for the frazzled waitress. Feed the parking meter that has expired, or is about to. Pay for the order of the person behind you in the drive through. You make your money work for you. Now make it work for others as well. Second, leave a note. Carry around a pen and a pad of sticky notes. Leave a note on a public restroom mirror that says “You look great!” Leave one in a self-help library book that says … [Read more...]
