Donna's Story (Uteraine Cancer) LR

In march of 2010 I went in for a hysterectomy, after having month's of worsening pain in my lower abdomen. My OB/GYN first said that I had a cyst. Then said I had polyp, and later said it maybe adenomyosis. I was prescribed birth control pills, and pain medicine to try to help my problem. They also asked me to take injection's for six month's that would cause me to go into menopause. A friend of mine told me she tried the injection's, and that her pain came right back after she stopped the injection's. I decided to opt out of taking the shot. I asked to have a hysterectomy, because none of the treatments I was receiving seemed to help me at all. It’s a good thing I had the surgery because my pathology report came back as stage 3C uterine cancer. It was 2 mm away from penetrating the uterine wall into my abdomen. If I had done what my doctor said I would have been in worse shape.  I am glad that I listened to what my body was telling me, and I took charge of my health. I had … [Read more...]

Jackie's Story (Uterine Cancer) LR

Hooyah..!! GOD is GREAT..!! My name is Jackie (Rambo) Hackney. I am a 47-year-old beautiful woman from the small town of Kaufman Texas. I am 5’8 and weigh 130 soaking wet. I went my entire life feeling healthy and in shape. I did not go to the doctor unless I had the flu. One day a pain started in my belly. It did not go away. I decided to go to the doctor to get it checked and was diagnosed with Diverticulitis. After taking meds for that with no results, I went back to the doctor. An MRI was ordered. Results were a little kidney stone and a little fibroid tumor was seen. I was told they were small and should go away. Well, the pain did not go away, but got worse. I decided to go to a big hospital in Dallas to, once again, be checked. The doctor there could see the fibroid tumor that was half in and half out of my uterus. He set up day surgery to remove it. I awoke in a hospital room with the news slapping me in the face that a fist size cancer tumor was sitting behind the … [Read more...]

Kim's Story (Thyroid Cancer Uterine Cancer) LR

For years, my husband and I struggled with infertility but finally, after drugs, procedures and lots of heartbreak, we were finally blessed with a baby (I already had an 11 yr old daughter from a previous marriage). Just 2 short years later in 2006, at the age of 34, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. All I could think about at first is, I was just handed a death sentence. That is what people think when they hear the ”C” word. My own father passed away from cancer when I was 22. I struggled with dealing with my cancer. I didn’t even know I had it until it was already gone but I could NOT stop thinking about the what if’s…What if it comes back?….What if they didn’t get it all?…What if I die? I want to see my kids grow up and have families of their own. Finally, after 2 years of good results and clean scans, I allowed myself to hope. We started trying to have another baby almost immediately after I was cleared from giving birth to our daughter because of the … [Read more...]
