As a kid, I always thought I had psoriasis, and I got laughed at for it. I also had mild cerebral palsy and bipolar disorder. I never, in all my life, thought I had Lupus! I thought I only had CP and the psoriasis. Well, I started having symptoms of bipolar disorder at age 17, but wasn't diagnosed with that until age 27. During the 2000’s, I would skip my period some months. I also started having frequent joint pain and I would feel wiped out sometimes. I just thought I was in my depressive phase of the bipolar disorder, which also runs in the family. Then, my mom and sister both had high ANA and later tested negative for lupus. Then, in the summer of 2010, my blood pressure was high, so I went to the doctor. He said that it was not high and ordered some blood work for me. A month later, he said my cholesterol was high and that I had a high ANA. Three months later, I was tested for Lupus, but wasn't formally diagnosed until October 2011. Ali's Story (AIDS, Cerebral Palsy) LR

My name is Alexandria Denise Allen but my family and friends call me Ali or Alex. I am 16-years-old. I was born in Boston, MA, on May 1st, 1995 to my Puerto Rican mother from Brooklyn, New York named Annette Denise Moya and my Jamaican father from Kingston, Jamaica, Gladstone Allen. I was born prematurely. I was born with HIV/AIDS and Cerebral Palsy in my legs and a small hole in my heart. I have been fighting all my life ever since I was born. I was not supposed to walk for the rest of my life and I was not supposed to live after 5-years-old. But then, when my 5th birthday came up, I got really sick and I was laying on my death bed. I was laying there and saw all my family from Brooklyn, New York and Kingston, Jamaica all come down to Boston, Massachusetts to wish me goodbye. Seeing my family by my side, my mom asked for me to be baptized before I left. After getting baptized, I started to get better. I started to walk.
